Steps to Keep Your Office Organized
5 Steps to Keep Your Office Organized In the New Year
The holidays are over, the leftovers are still in the fridge, and you’re back to the daily grind. Don’t fret. You don’t have to let the chaos consume your office life, too. Follow these steps to keep your work space clean and tidy as you begin the new year.
Step One: Get Organized
Do you really need 1,000 pens and sticky pads? No. Less is more. Take only the amount that you need and display it on your desk in neat piles. Put the others in a storage place where you can retrieve later when you actually need them.
Step Two: Equip Yourself With the Proper Tools
Purchase a calendar, a wastebasket, file folders, and filing cabinets to keep your work clean, tidy and organized. It is easy to become overloaded with paperwork and let it over run your life. Don’t let it. Take time to organize your files, drawers, and shelves nicely so you don’t waste time in the future looking for a particular document.
Step Three: Cut the Clutter
Many people fear throwing different pieces of paperwork away in case they need it in the future. That is a legitimate concern, but not when it consumes your desk and begins taking on a life of its own. The best paper management comes in the electronic format. If you really believe you may need something in the future, scan it, save it, file it and throw the physical paper away. Your desk will thank you.
Step Four: Label It
Don’t you hate when you can’t find the masking tape or an envelope? Label-makers are relatively inexpensive and may help you expedite a lot of the time spent searching for a particular item.
Step Five: Keep It Clean
As a best practice, you should clean and disinfect your office/work space at least 2-3 times per week. If you are staying organized, this should not take more than 5-10 minutes and will keep you healthier, especially during flu season. We recommend grabbing a pack of Clorox disinfecting wipes and wiping down all areas susceptible to bacteria growth (phones, keyboards, computer monitors, chairs, door handles, etc.)
Clorox disinfecting wipes, baking soda, and many other bacteria-killers are what we utilize with our green cleaning certified products, so your office not only looks great, but is also a safe and healthy environment for you and your coworkers.
